99’ers started by Mike Boland is a gym that covers all styles of Combat sports including Boxing, Muay Thai, Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts. It has an increasingly strong position within the martial arts community with a growing reputation and respectable stable of coaches and competitors.
Mike found that the health and fitness industry, although rewarding, offered little financial growth as it is notorious for low wages. This was one of his motives for considering self-employment. The New Enterprise Incentive Scheme (NEIS) gave him the opportunity to take control of his financial position. Although a riskier option, starting his own business has proven to be worth that risk.
The transition from employee to self-employment is difficult as the financial security of a larger business is no longer available when you venture out on your own. Mike found having an experienced mentor and financial assistance provided more security as he emerged on his own into the marketplace.
The business training allowed Mike to establish a checklist to assess and re-assess his business viability before taking the plunge. As well as the ongoing mentoring that kept him level and on the right path.
In regards to starting a business through the NEIS program Mike believes it is a great opportunity to take control of your life and contribute to the economy and community in a more significant way.
